Statement of Intent

Mathematics is a creative and highly inter-connected discipline that has been developed over centuries. It is a subject that we all can do – and this very much is the belief underpinning our teaching of maths at Moor Hall. Through the maths curriculum, our intent is for children to grow steadily into fluent mathematicians who are curious, notice, make connections, reason and problem solve. These skills are life skills…and are highly transferable across the curriculum.

Fostering and developing the disciplines of a mathematical mind allows children to understand the world. Our intent is to make the wonder that is maths accessible to all, with each child accessing a curriculum in which small steps are used to reveal (and allows the children to explore) this wonder. It allows them to think, notice, reason and work mathematically – developing an ability to apply their knowledge and deep understanding to other subjects and, overall, to life.
